Magic Hands is an eight-unit program specifically designed to increase self-esteem and self-confidence within children. Children learn in a hands-on way – through the metaphor of magic and the artistic process– that anything is possible.
The program is also designed to encourage volunteerism in high-school students by giving them the expertise and opportunity to participate in a program that develops skills and brings joy to others.
How it works: The program partners professional magicians with volunteers to teach magic to children, ages eight to twelve years, in schools and community centers.
A cycle is eight weeks long and is made up of eight units: seven teaching units one performing unit. The children benefit from the interaction with the magicians and volunteers each week, as the group builds upon the previous week’s lessons. By the final week, friends and family of participants are invited to come and watch a show – starring our participants!
Each child also receives a certificate to acknowledge his or her participation, progress or contribution.
Magic Kits: At the beginning of our cycle, each child receives a “Box of Secrets ”. Each week it is filled with individual magic tricks and instructions. There is no cost to participants for either the lessons or the magic tricks, thanks to the generous support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and our other vital community sponsors.
Volunteers: All volunteers are supported and trained by Magic Hands Coordinators and instructors, who are professional magicians and teachers. Those volunteers who are also in high-school can earn community service hours under the direction of Magicana.
