Splendid Amusement
So reads the headline on the handbill of Mr. A. Walker, a late-19th-century "professor of legerdemain."
Magic collectors (as we call ourselves) seek everything that promotes the mysteries of magicians — posters and playbills, books and photographs, magic tricks and memorabilia — for these chronicle the history of this wonderful performing art. Generations of enthusiastic collectors, from Harry Houdini to David Copperfield, have avidly sought and cherished these artifacts of "the world of magic."
Since its founding in 1949, the Magic Collectors Association — "MCA" — has provided a lively connection to and means of communication among those pursuing this fascinating art.
Our quarterly journal, Magicol, offers informative articles on magic history, news of important auctions and other collecting opportunities.
We stage an annual conference each spring - the Magic Collectors Weekend (MCW). For 2010, we celebreated the 41st annual Weekend where we honoured George Daily and Mike Caveney. Read more about the 41st MCW.
2010 also marks the beginning of a new era for the MCA as Magicana takes over its administration duties including publishing Magicol and presenting the annual conference. The introduction of our new role is outlined in the Feb 2010 issue of Magicol.
We have several exciting projects lined up for the MCA, including our latest endeavor, the Mystery & History Blog. We encourage visitors and members to check the blog frequently as we will use the blog to release news and updates.
If you enjoy magic — if its secrets and history intrigue you — we invite you to join us.
