Magicana is an arts organization dedicated to the study, exploration and advancement of magic as a performing art.
Our activities are as broad as our subject matter. We produce or present performances by some of the world’s leading magicians. We provide a wealth of resources to teach and, hopefully, inspire an alternative take on sleight-of-hand.
We publish books pertaining to all aspects of the craft including biographies of great performers, manuals of technical secrets, and reprints of rare treatises housed in private collections. We are also the publishers of the quarterly periodical Magicol, A Journal of Magic History and Collectibles.
We stage conferences, workshops and seminars for those experienced in the craft, and for some just beginning. We work with magicians, magic enthusiasts and magic historians worldwide who document and discuss this venerable art. We create exhibitions related to all facets of this performing art: performers, composers, writers, designers and builders of magic.
Magicana is also a registered charity and we are very proud of our work in the community. My Magic Hands uses the metaphor of magic to empower disadvantaged youth; Senior Sorcery brings the world of wonder to seniors. Tony Eng Youth Fund provides financial assistance to young people who want to learn more about magic while our Edwin A. Dawes Award for Magic Scholarship is a bursary for those individuals pursuing doctoral studies related to magic.
