Magicana is pleased to present a special magic program for seniors called Senior Sorcery. The program is a magic show, entitled Hocus Pocus - a fifty-minute program of mirth, mystery and magic - presented to seniors in retirement homes and recreational centers in the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding areas at various times throughout the year. 

Hocus Pocus!

Hocus Pocus is highly participatory and removes the traditional “fourth wall” of theatre. This style of show injects a different kind of personality and vitality, in contrast to other forms of theatre offered.  The unique interactive nature has strongly resonated with the centers Magicana has worked with since 2004.  Hocus Pocus gives the seniors and the centers the opportunity to reunite young and old, an excuse to create a multi-generational gatherings - one that creates an environment where each generation can benefit from interacting with the other. 

Julie Eng

Hocus Pocus features the magic of Julie Eng in a fifty-minute program of mirth, mystery and magic.

Julie hails from Victoria, British Columbia and grew up in a family of magicians. Her father, Tony Eng, is the premier magical entertainer on Canada’s West Coast. Julie moved to Toronto to join The Conjuror, Patrick Watson and David Ben’s critically acclaimed theatrical presentation of magic from the Golden Age staged at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Shaw Festival. Julie is a seasoned professional who has performed her own special brand of magic across Canada and the United States. Magicana is pleased to have Julie present Hocus Pocus for patrons of the Smile Theatre Company.
