About the fund

In 2008, Magicana created this program in memory of Tony Eng (1946 - 2008). Tony operated Tony's Trick and Joke Shop in Victoria, BC for almost 20 years and was responsible for many magicians getting their first start in magic.

What is the fund?

The Tony Eng Youth Fund is to promote and support youths as they pursue the art of magic. Tony provided promising young magicians with an ongoing invitation into the local magic community. He coached, mentored and inspired many. Tony’s deep commitment to sharing with and supporting young people is the heart and soul of this funding program.

Who is it for?

The Tony Eng Youth Fund is a funding program for young magicians, with a particular focus for those thirteen to eighteen years of age. It is meant to share and support with the same generous spirit that Tony always gave.

Who was Tony?

Tony Eng astounded and astonished audiences for more than a half-century.

A diminutive and engaging performer, Tony practised the venerable arts of hocus-pocus and legerdemain. He displayed a showman's verve and a craftsman's precision, whether as a stage performer, as a close-up magician or as a proprietor of a magic emporium in downtown Victoria, BC. The self-proclaimed "Ambassador of Magic" entertained audiences for five decades.

Tony passed away in May 2008, at the age of 61, due to complications from cancer.
