Sid Lorraine, The Magical ChatterBox

September 23, 2015

Magicana was pleased to be present at David Ben’s presentation earlier in September for the Sid Lorraine Hat & Rabbit Club (IBM Ring 17)’s opening lecture. The club traditionally kicks-off with a Canadian lecture and it has been 30 years since David’s last lecture for the club!

It was great to see old friends and of course, to become acquainted with new ones. Upon reflection, one can see Toronto’s Ring 17 has a great history of magic and of magicians – one, of course, is the namesake of the club, the one and only, Sid Lorraine.

In 2010, thanks to the support of the Johnson Family and David Ben, Magicana set up The Magical ChatterBox, a Blog by Sid Lorraine. It is part of our on-going online exhibitions and offers a rich history of Sid’s early days in magic.

Sid was, among other things, a magician, artist, filmmaker, historian and humourist. He loved technology and embraced anything new in the form of communication – he would have loved social media and blogging! So, to bring him online, we augmented drafts of his memoirs along with ephemera and images from his archives and created The Magical ChatterBox for him. We invite you to see the world from his point-of-view and hope you enjoy the journey.
